Confession of Sins Necessary for Blessedness

There are several reasons why Christians are not receiving blessings from the Lord. When we miss out on blessings it leaves us with feelings of despondency and disappointment. We begin to question our faith when really it is due to our failure to be in a right relationship with the Lord.

In order for us to prosper, we must have a relationship with Jesus, for he said in John 15:5 which says, “He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me, ye can do nothing.” Without Jesus, we can do nothing.

As we do the work of God we abide in Jesus and as we do more work, he manifests himself to us. However, if we are not confessing our sins and forgiving others, the Lord cannot forgive us. This means we have fallen out of our relationship with Jesus. If we are not in a relationship with Jesus, then we are not using our spiritual gifts, not serving God and we are not getting blessed.

If we consider John 14:21, it says: “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father : and I will love him, and manifest myself to him.” Jesus is saying that if we do not keep his commands, then God will not love us and Jesus will not manifest himself to us. If Jesus does not manifest himself to us, then it is impossible to prosper.

When we fail to confess sins and forgive others, we fail to keep one of Jesus’ commandments. Because of that failure, Jesus cannot manifest himself to us and God cannot show us his love. It means we are not serving God because of the condition of our hearts. We do not have a love for others because we are unwilling to forgive those who have sinned against us.

Jesus chose us to go and bear fruit that would last. We need to bear the fruit so that God can use us to draw others to Christ. If we are not bearing fruit, then the Lord will, “cut off every branch in us that bears no fruit” or he will prune us so that we can bear more fruit. The pruning involves discipline from the Lord. He brings us to a place where we need to repent so that we can bear fruit and contact more souls for him.

We may have to repent of the bad habits which are causing us to sin or we may need healing from past circumstances which are keeping us bound in sin. If we repent, then we have victory and we are able to return to the relationship with God and with Jesus. We are able to serve God once again. However, some of us will not be able to repent. Sin leads to disease which leads to death. We may die before we are ever able to return to a relationship with the Lord and serve him once again.

The last situation is unfortunate but a very real possibility if we fail to obey the Lord. If you are not experiencing the blessedness of the lord, it would be wise to go to the Lord and ask him to reveal what is blocking you from blessedness. We have to ask for opportunities to be of service to god and ask for him to expand our opportunities. The Lord may have another area or group of people that he wants you to serve. As we grow in the Lord, he gives us more responsibility and we have to make sure that we ask for the opportunities to serve God in a greater capacity. An opportune time to do that is whenever an assignment ends.

As we serve the Lord, we experience joy and peace. We experience the joy because we are experiencing God’s love and Jesus is manifesting himself to us. When others see the joy, God can draw them to Jesus.

In conclusion, we have to be in a right relationship with Jesus and a right relationship to God so that they can use us and so that we can be blessed as a result of our work.
