Well, as I look back on the year which we just completed, we can observe the wonderful works that God did in spite of the evil works of the devil which made their way into the media.
Instead of focusing on the evil, we have to look at the good which came out of it. The tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut brought many families together, in fact an entire town. It made many of them turn to God for hope and in gratefulness for the blessings that they had. God has a way of turning events around in his favor, so that his purposes can be fulfilled.
As a result of this tragedy, the governments in the Unities States and around the world are considering whether their policy on the right to bear arms and the acquiring of those firearms are in the best interest for the people, especially the innocent children.
Christians around the world are offering their prayers for the victims and their families, for the Lord has commanded us to “Rejoice with them that do rejoice and weep with them that weep,” Romans 12:15 (KJV). In this way we can “Be of the same mind, one toward another, “ Romans 12:16 (KJV).
There have been storms, tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, and bombings which caused a lot of damage, and in some cases, death to innocent victims. But God, always rescues those who who call upon him. In the midst of it all, there were some areas and some families and individuals who were not affected by these natural disasters. If we take a closer look, we can understand that they were the ones who hearken unto his word. For God always gives a warning and instructions for avoiding tragedy.
But, if we are not in a right relationship with him, we will never hear his voice. Deuteronomy 28:1 says, “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments, which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will se thee on high above all nations of the earth.” The commandments do not only include the Ten Commandments, but anything which he tells us to do. We have to know his voice and know that he speaks through whom he chooses to speak.
If we know, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we will follow him and he will lead us to safety. Jesus says in John 10:4, “And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.”
Finally, the Lord says in Proverbs 1:33, “For whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.” This is why we need to pay attention to what the Lord is saying us and to do what he says.
