Branding Yourself as a Christian Author

In case you are not aware of it, there is a way that Christian authors can brand themselves and attract more followers. As I just recently published a book and am working on a few others, I have been investigating how I can reach more followers who are interested in what I am writing.

It is important that we take the right steps, as we do want others to be aware that we have something to offer. First and foremost is to create a website with your name as the URL. This will help the people who are actively searching you out to actually find you. There are a number of free websites that one can set up if funds are limited.

It is also important to have professional photos of yourself so that as your name is seen, they can connect your face with your name. Some branding experts also recommend that your photo be placed on the front cover of the book. I saw Hillary Clinton’s face on her two newest books. The celebrities use this technique all the time, as well as the more well-known Christian authors.

Some Christian authors may take issue with this as they may believe that we are not being humble. However, the Bible says, “For it is by grace we are saved through faith, and not of ourselves, it is a gift of God, not by works, so that no one may boast,” Ephesians 2:8,9. If we do the initial work of placing our works and our name where people may find them, the Lord will draw buyers to us.

We should be willing to have our names visible to the masses when we are messengers of God because Hebrews 13:16 says, “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” In this way, God can do his work, and there is nothing that is preventing Him from drawing men to where he wants them.
If this is our first publication or your twenty-first, we need to begin to think along the lines of where we can do the greatest good for God and bring him the highest glory.

Along with the face and name recognition, we should be making sure that we have the right key words for people who are searching for our content on the Internet. If we do not take the time to research the words, others may attract the customers. The Bible says, “He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek,” Romans 2:6-10.

Therefore, we cannot afford not to be diligent in our efforts to ensure that God can use us through our works, because the Bible also says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven,” Matthew 5:16.
