Righteousness by Faith

There comes a time in everyone’s life when God wants to lead us in to uncharted territory because he wants to bless us. God is calling us to do something that we could not do without him. It requires total dependence on him.
In order to do what the natural man does not believe is possible, we have to clothe ourselves with the righteousness of God. It means we are becoming the righteous of God in Christ. This righteousness does not have a sin consciousness. It is a “gift of righteousness that shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ, “(Romans 5:17 KJV), and as a result, grace reigns, as it covers our sins.

The way for us to assume this righteousness is by faith. There is no other way to acquire it, as then it would be righteousness by “works” instead of by “faith.” Noah acquired this righteousness by faith when he built the ark. Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear.” Once acquired, we can then stand before the Father, in prayer, “without any sense of guilt,” (E.W. Kenyon, 1996), and we can perform the toughest jobs because Christ is with us, doing the work, and we have no memory of sin in this state of righteousness, which would hinder our work.

For some it will take years to actually understand how this is actually accomplished, especially if faith is a problem. For example, intellectuals and anyone who “takes the initiative” without consulting God in prayer, would have a problem with this. We are a new man created in Christ when we accept Christ into our hearts. Therefore, Christ will be our strength and we will be able to do all things through him, Philippians 4:13.

This applies to anyone who is in Christ, no matter what their walk in life, the student, the single mother, the homeless man, the business man or woman, the poor – anyone! This new awareness will empower even the feeblest of individuals to go out and do things which they could not do before. The spirits will submit to Christ and will no longer get in the way. There is one condition of this newness in Christ. We have to clothe ourselves with righteousness each and every day, otherwise, we revert back to the old nature.

If we recall the Parable of the Sower, we will understand why few of us have been able to live as righteous beings. Matthew 13:20, 21 say “But he that receiveth the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it: Yet hath no root in him, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.”

By the same token, James 1:23, 24 say, “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass, For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.”

So, we can hear the word and not do it, or we can put the word into action, but fail to yield the results we want because we are not firm in the word. For whatever reason, let us commit to be more vigilant about hearing the word and acting upon it so that we can receive the blessings.

My new book, Retailer’s Guide to Merchant Services includes insights for the Christian business owner on righteousness as it relates to the operation of the business.
