There is Nothing New Under the Sun

welcome-photo2

There is a lot going on in the world today, especially with the U.S. presidential candidacies. There are so many issues pending which we as Christians must be aware that the enemy is at work, trying to lead people away from Christ. We are compelled to take a stand against the devil’s schemes to blind us to the truth.
It becomes more important to stand on the word of God and hide it them on our hearts, we will be well prepared to turn from the lie when we are confronted by it. Many people are dissatisfied with the way that things have turned out and there has been a surge in violence, ungodliness, rebellion, and the like as a result. This is Satan’s way of causing division among us.

I Timothy 3:1-5 says that “…in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

As you are reading these verses, does anything come to mind? Is there a situation in your life or around you that is causing this attitude in the people around you or even yourself? In every age, there has been an introduction of controversial issues which have shocked the people or even led them away from the truth. But if the word is in our hearts, we can take a stand against the lies and still lead godly and Christ-like lives in spite of it.

I Timothy 3:15 says, “And from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” If there is any doubt, we can turn to the word to make us wiser. Reading the word about these issues and how God feels about them will keep us on track. Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, “There is nothing new under the sun.” These were the issues facing the ancient Israelites as well as mankind throughout the centuries. The only thing different is the technology we use and the way we dress.

In spite of these changes, the word of God has never changed and is still relevant to our age. Hebrews 4:12 says, the word of God is “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.” It is still as powerful as it was when it was first recorded. Additionally, Jesus is still the same. In the same book of Hebrews, Jesus is mentioned as Hebrews 13:8 “the same yesterday and today and forever.”

It seems we need to be reminded again that we love one another as God has loved us. I Peter 1:22 says, “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.” The reward for obeying the truth is that we can love one another with a pure heart.
