Total Dependence

dependence

“I can of mine own self do nothing.: as I hear, I judge and my judgment is just; for I seek not mine own will; but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” John 5:30

Unless we admit that we cannot do it all, but that we rely totally on God, he cannot do anything for us. Christ cannot use us if we insist on being independent or proud. We do not allow God to do the work through us. We are limited because of our humanity, but God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, ( Psalm 139:1-10). He is the all in all, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. We can do nothing but by his spirit living within us because we have Christ dwelling in our hearts through faith.

He blesses us and we accept the gifts which he freely gives us, (I Corintians 2:12). We can never pay him back. His Holy Spirit is a free gift to us. Too many of us are too proud to receive the gifts that God has for us. When we receive a gift, our first inclination is that we must give in return. God does not work that way. When we receive a gift and then pay the person back, it is not a gift from God. Let God do his work! Luke 6:34-36

“And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.”
